The Goal

Cambrian Geological’s goal is to grow mainly by referrals from satisfied clients. Our clients need environmental services, but they don’t need headaches. We want their projects to go as smoothly as possible.
The Strategy
Cambrian’s overall strategy for reaching our goal of customer satisfaction is three-pronged. We’ve decided our work will be a little better, a little cheaper, and a little faster than our competitors’.
Our work is better. Even though we’re a still a relatively-new company, our staff have years of experience. They’ve learned, not only from their mistakes but also from considering what might be done generally to improve the quality of their work. For example, we’ve improved consistency between data and text in our reports by extensive use of custom computer programs. We survey the locations of all test borings and pits we install, so the client can make maximum use of the data we collect in any future investigation – there’s hardly anything as useless as data from test borings installed in unknown locations. We use a first-rate laboratory (EarthWise, LLC) and even though they’re excellent, we still look over their reports for suspect data. We have read other people’s reports as well as guidance documents from numerous regulatory agencies and have incorporated every useful idea we’ve seen into our own reports.
Our work is cheaper. Not a lot, because it’s a cutthroat industry, and profit margins are thin. But we don’t pad our estimates and we don’t charge for services not performed. And we can still deliver our services and make a profit, because we’re extraordinarily efficient. We use custom computer programs to manage data efficiently. We stress writing ability, so we can generate our reports rapidly. And we hire the most efficient boring subcontractors (Glacier Drilling, LLC is our first choice) so we can install more borings for a given price.
Our work is faster. Again, everybody else is trying to do the same thing – but we do it better. We have abundant experience at writing reports, which is the one major bottleneck that can be ameliorated. We’ve never missed a deadline. We’ve performed several Phase I’s in three or four days. If you need speed, we can deliver it.
